Ask questions like: 
  • What do you notice? What do we know from the map? What questions does the map raise for you.
  • What are the text features?
  • What can we learn about this from the map?
  • What questions do you want to ask about this map?
  • Where in the world might this be based on what you see?
  • What clues does the map give you about this book?
  • Why is only a part of the map coloured in?
Navigation Skills and Map Reading Using the compass rose, record where landmarks are relative to other landmarks. For example, the barn is SE of the lake.
